  • High-rise waistband sitting at the natural waist (10.5" front rise on size 27).
  • Custom copper rivets and a branded shank button at the closure.

Raw vs. One-Wash

Rawis unwashed, full indigo, board-stiff out of the box. Expect ~3" shrinkage in the inseam after the first soak — we recommend choosing your size two inches long and washing before wear. Develops fades at the knee, lap, and wallet that are entirely your own.

One-wash is the same denim, put through a single cold rinse in our SoHo studio. Shrinkage is already set. Slightly softer hand, slightly muted indigo, ready to wear off the rail.

Fit & Sizing

Sized in waist inches (24-32). The model is 5’9, normally a 27, wears the 26 in the raw and the 27 in the one-wash. Raw denim will give roughly half a size at the waist after the first wear; one-wash holds.

Front rise 10.5" on size 27; back rise 14". Thigh measures 11" on size 27. Inseam 32", hem complimentary in atelier.

Materials

100% cotton selvage denim, 14.5 oz, woven on shuttle looms at the Kaihara mill in Hiroshima, Japan. Natural indigo dyed in 18 rope-dye passes. Hardware: custom copper rivets and a brass shank button, both unfinished to oxidize with wear. Care: machine wash cold, inside out, line dry.

Kaihara has been weaving indigo on shuttle looms since 1893. The cloth comes off the loom 33 inches wide — the original loom width of pre-war American denim — with the woven edge that gives the fabric its name. We cut every pair to use the selvage on the outseam.

Pattern, sample, cut, sew, rivet, chain-stitch hem: all within sixteen blocks of the atelier. Bring them by any time for a hem, a repair, or a wash — we’ll handle all three at the studio.
