Margot wears the Greene blazer to court

Customer profile portrait

Margot is a federal defender in the Southern District of New York. She bought the Greene blazer in charcoal five years ago, in the first season we made it, and she has worn it to court most weeks since.

She is precise about why. It has to survive a fourteen-hour day and a subway platform in August. It has to read as serious to a judge without reading as expensive to a client. And it has to still close properly after five years, which is a question of interfacing and canvas, not of fabric.

The blazer has been re-lined once, at our studio, for the cost of the lining. The wool has softened. The shoulder is unchanged, which is the point of a half-canvassed front - the structure is built rather than glued, so it moulds to the wearer instead of collapsing.

We asked whether she would buy a second in another colour. She said no, quite firmly, and then explained that owning one blazer she trusts is the entire reason she likes the brand. It was not the answer a clothing company hopes for, and it is the one we quote most often.
