The case against synthetic blends
We do not use rayon, viscose, polyester or elastane. Customers ask for stretch several times a week, and the answer is still no, so it is worth setting out the reasoning rather than treating it as a house style.
Elastane degrades. It is a rubber, it breaks down with heat, detergent and time, and it takes the garment with it - a trouser with 3% elastane will bag at the knee in a way a pure wool trouser will not, usually inside two years. Adding it is a decision to make a garment disposable.
Polyester and viscose have a different problem: they do not breathe, and they shed microplastics into the water supply on every wash. We are a small label and our contribution either way is negligible, which is exactly why the decision costs us nothing to make correctly.
The honest trade-off is that our clothes require more thought. A wool trouser wants a hanger and an occasional press. A silk slip wants a cold hand wash. If that is not the relationship you want with your clothes, we are probably not the right house - and that is a fine outcome for both of us.
